| this has been on my mind a lot lately. sites like this have a hard time surviving because of larger sites doing the job much better and with many more options, and it's becoming way more apparent. google reader's share option, tumblr, delicious, facebook and twitter to some degree, etc etc et al ad infinitum - i could go on but i'm sure you all know the deal. sharing links is no longer about going to a site like mfisn and pasting it - why have a middleman involved?(bigger sites like digg/reddit can do it obvsly because of the fanbase) we share links from our own outlets to our own communities/networks, through status updates and bookmarklets and upvotes. shit, even i've stopped posting here and have just kept to tumblr and visiting other sites where content is more or less aggregated from a number of places and does it automatically. my interwebs trends have drastically changed as well, it's not as lulzy or nerdy anymore (although i still enjoy reading ed and still irc) and all the sharing that i ever want to do - tumblr handles it well enough for me not to complain. i don't know dudes. i love the idea of mfisn and i want to keep sharing links but i'm bothered by going to the website to do it lol. how should we take mfisn into the NEXT LEVEL? how should we take mfisn into the y2k? into web 1.5?? |

| nothing does what mfisn does: simply paste links. no added features, no profiles, no quotes, no bullshit. that's why I like mfisn and keep coming here. delicious and tumblr and twitter suck. they're overused, bloated, and prefer quantity of quality. mfisn wouldn't be fun if there were 5 updates per minute that you had to sort through and keep on top of. mfisn's charm is in its simplicity, and it's a beautiful thing. tumblr and twitter don't feel like communities, they feel like networks. you have to follow people as if you give a shit. at least on mfisn we're one singular community with one collective list of links, so that there's no bullshit. just links. the only thing we can really do to make mfisn "better" would be to make maybe a bookmarklet to quickly post-to-mfisn. what we should definitely NOT do is open registration. we'd just get more beefeaters, and we'd just become a shitty smaller tumblr. |

| MFISN and b3ta are the only sites I'll go to for links. I'm with facemorph that twitter, tumblr and all other community based sites are shit because they require me pretend to give a damn about other people on the internet. MFISN and b3ta are where I can go to find links that are most of the time relevant to my interests, without having to deal with the drama and menial spouting of someone's blog or twitter feed. The problem with most public based link sites (and places that allow the public to vote on links) is that the vast majority of people have shit taste so you still have to weed out the good links from the junk. Somewhere like here where links are moderated or submitted by 'trusted' posters work best. The number of links is lower, but it's not flooded by so much crap you miss something that might actually be interesting. As for making it better? Web browser tool-bar with instant post-to-MFISN button with automatic dupe detection, and live stream of the RSS. Also an iPhone app with push notifications of new posts. Fuck yeah. |

| I just wanted to add that I am a long time visitor to mfisn and I love it. I really appreciate the minimal layout. I use things like twitter, delicious, etc. but nothing parallels mfisn in terms of delivering content without the noise. I don't mind that mfisn doesn't work like digg, or is not as expansive as delicious -- I know that I will appreciate some of the links posted per day. It is really a rare occasion to see editorialized internet content stay so consistent over such a long period of time, and it is truly an admirable project. keep it up. | |

| haha. guess my vision of mfisn is lackluster. but i acknowledge that the community's been going on for a while with not a whole lot of slowing. bookmarklet would probably make me post way way more. | |

| Mfisn is the only site I ever check. Any site that has voting/comments is just a waste of time. When I come to mfisn, I know that the people here have a similar sense of humor and find similar topics as entertaining as I do. The public is moderated and throttled (!) so the spammers look elsewhere to peddle their crap. The best part of mfisn though, is the total lack of context in which links are presented... never know what you're gonna get | |

| Excuse me for being late on this, I come to hello once every other month. I am a fucking loser and make my whole netlife about links. I use GReader to go through 250+ plus items everyday. One feed I am subscribed to is BuzzFeed. They are the only link site that does it almost as right as mfisn. It's basically like digg but instead of using votes to rank a link, it uses clicktracking to post links in realtime. You still get retarded comments, though. Plus retarded n00bs that haven't seen spaghetti cat in their lame life so they spread it around until it reaches the main page. To take mfisn to the N3XT step maybe there shouldn't be any more posting, instead multiple framed RSS feeds that bring the content straight to the page. There's ways to make it look clean and simple (what mfisn is all about) and I have a good idea of what feeds to use to achieve maximum content with no dupes. Also, I'm sure there are ways to mix that with our user base so WE aren't left with nothing to do. IDK GUIZE I SUXX COXX WOT U THINK ABOT IT? I have been thinking about mfisn's future lately. So I'm with you on that, siik. |
